Flora Stationery blossomed from a study abroad trip co-founder, Ashley, took to Kosovo. While there, she met an inspiring young woman who struggled to afford a college education due to means outside of her control.
Determined to create a sustainable solution for funding access to higher education for young women in developing countries, Ashley and her twin sister, Victoria founded Flora Stationery.
Utilizing a portion of the proceeds from Flora Stationery product sales, we cover the tuition fees for young women in Kosovo to enroll at the University of Prishtina.
In the past 18 months we have supported over 70 scholarships. For the Spring 2016 semester, will be dispersing 26 scholarships supporting both tuition+book fees.
WHAT WE DO
In 2016 we are launching several different programs to continue to help support our scholarship recipients with more than just an education.
After hearing from some of our scholarship recipients as to their needs outside of books and tuition, we realized that the simple act of getting to school can be a struggle for many of the women we support. Because of this we now offer bus fare stipends for the students we support who need them the most.
More than an education.
Kosovo has the highest unemployment rate in all of Europe and holds a female unemployment rate of over
Yet women with a university degree are over 28 times more likely to be employed than those with a basic education.
Kosovo is also the poorest country in the region, with approximately 30% of the population living in poverty and another 10% who live in extreme poverty, living off less than one dollar per day.*
Education as an opportunity
Over 95% of the women who recieve a scholarship are within the first generation of female college students in their families.

Opportunities make a difference.
"I enjoyed every minute of being part to the english camp. I learned english, I met new people, new cultures, so I would say it was one of the most beautiful experiences I ever had.
I want to say thanks to english teachers that came from America just for us, and I want to say thanks to the memebers of organization Jetë Studentore they gave the bests from themeselves.
And to the end I want to say thank you to a special person Ashley, because of the helps you always give to the students, and because of you make it happen for me to go to the camp."

In collaboration with the Idea Partnership of Kosovo, an economc development initiative, we have commissioned a group of women in their program to create and produce pencil bags that are hand woven and hand sewn. These pencil bags are made by women from a marginalized people group in Kosovo and the money from our purchase goes directly to them. All the women have children who started to go to school this year and with the profits from the bags, they are less likely to go out begging, and less likely to take their children out of school to accompany them.

It is our goal for our scholarship recipients to be well prepared for future careers. Because of this, we realize that many international companies look to hire staff that are not only fluent in their own language, but English as well. Beginning in Spring 2016, we are offering a weekly English class for our scholarship recipients.
Throughout the year, additional opportunities are offered to the women supported by a Flora scholarship. Varying from scholarships to learn English at a summer English camp, to internship stipends to aid in affording to take a semester off of school to gain valuable work experience.
